About our Beech

This rare vintage aircraft, which was confiscated in America in the 1980s for illegal drug running activities will be now calling the Hunter Valley its home.

Our Beech was built for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1952 as a transport aircraft. The Beech 18 was originally designed in 1937 and over 9000 were built, operating world wide from WWII through to today.

Providing you with some history on the aircraft; our Beech served with the RCAF for almost 20 years and from there was sold into private ownership, carrying freight for the next 20 years.

Confiscated in the 1980’s by the US Government for drug transportation, it was later sold at auction.  Making the move to Australia in 1998, it was flown across the Pacific and has made appearances in big screen films, including “South Pacific” before residing in Murwillumbah, northern NSW for the last few years.

It joined us here in the Hunter Valley from October 2015 and has been completely restored to its former beauty. Recently in July 2017 it took to the air for its first flight and named ‘Miss Maple’, a reference to her former services with the RCAF.

Who are we

Chris & Haley Tibbetts are locals to the Hunter and have a passion for the aviation industry.

Chris started his flying career at an early age. Attaining his Commercial Pilots License and conducting Tiger Moth joyflights at the age of  18. With Chris' experience in a wide array of aircraft he found his love for warbirds as they each have their distinctive characteristics.

During his flying career he has been the Chief Pilot of Skydive Maitland and completed over 7000 parachute drops, and is a well respected jump pilot examiner.  More recently you will find Chris flying with our good friends at Paul Bennet Airshows or doing aerobatic adventure flights at Aerohunter. Being a regular on the Australian Airshow scene, Chris can often be found on the flightline, or keeping the show running smoothly as Display Air Boss.

His better half Haley, although not a pilot herself has fallen for the aviation industry through the passion in her husband's determination.

Normally you will find Haley within the building industry carrying out marketing and events, but following her love for being social and wanting others to be able to experience what her and the kids get to do every weekend, they saw the opportunity with the Beech 18 and thought "perfect!".
